The owner of a new Brisbane superfoods cafe is already looking to expand as demand for healthy and nutritious meals grows.
Justine Dobbin, who opened Avalanche Superfoods cafe in the suave Emporium shopping village at Fortitude Valley last March, has the Sunshine Coast in her sights.
Mrs Dobbin employs six staff to manage demand at the inner-city hotspot, popular for its smoothies and salads.
The term superfoods is essentially a marketing buzz word for foods with varying nutritional benefits, but has captured a devoted and growing market of health-conscious clientele.
Mrs Dobbin has no time frame for expansion, aiming to perfect her business model first.
“The expansion will happen when it happens, there is no point rushing it all,” she said.
“I have just bought a $6000 commercial cryovac machine so we can get to that next level.
“I can cryovac the food so we can cook a lot more to keep up with the demand.”
The self-confessed “foodie” says her recipe for success with Avalanche Superfoods is simple.
“You’ve got to be real,” she said.

“There’s no point going out there and outpricing yourself; we all work for a living, you’ve got to keep things reasonable.
“People go into business and they’ve got no experience in food, it’s not easy.”
Customers at the Emporium cafe range from mothers with children, to tradespeople and business lunch crowds.
“We would serve hundreds of people a day,” Mrs Dobbin said.
“It has been a very strong and consistent build since we first opened.”
